Product Care & Safety

Our products are made to help your home smell lovely, but they should always be used with care.

Please read the instructions and safety information supplied with each product before use. Keep all labels and packaging for future reference.

Candle Care

Before Lighting

Before each burn:

  • Trim the wick to approximately 5 mm

  • Place the candle on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface

  • Keep it away from draughts, open windows and heat sources

  • Remove any wick trimmings, matches or debris from the wax

  • Check that the container is not cracked or damaged

Never use a damaged candle container.

The First Burn

During the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly across most of the surface before extinguishing the candle.

This helps prevent tunnelling and encourages a more even burn throughout the life of the candle.

Do not exceed the maximum burn time stated on the product’s safety label.

While Burning

Always:

  • Keep a burning candle within sight

  • Keep it away from children and pets

  • Leave plenty of space above and around the flame

  • Keep it away from curtains, bedding, shelves and other flammable materials

  • Burn only one candle in a confined area where heat could build up

  • Keep the wax pool free from matches, wick trimmings and debris

Never:

  • Leave a burning candle unattended

  • Move a candle while it is burning

  • Touch the container while it is hot

  • Burn a candle near a draught

  • Place it directly onto an unprotected surface

  • Use water to extinguish the flame

Extinguishing Your Candle

Use a candle snuffer where possible, or gently blow out the flame.

Make sure the wick is no longer glowing before leaving the candle.

Allow the wax and container to cool fully before moving, trimming or relighting it.

When to Stop Using a Candle

Stop burning the candle when approximately 10 mm of wax remains at the bottom, or when instructed by the product label.

Continuing to burn a candle with too little wax may cause the container to overheat.

Why Does My Candle Look Different?

Our candles use soy-based wax, which can naturally respond to changes in temperature.

You may notice:

  • Frosting

  • Slight colour changes

  • Uneven or textured surfaces

  • Small wet-looking patches

  • Wax pulling slightly away from the container

  • A softer or puffier appearance during warm weather

These changes are usually cosmetic and do not affect the fragrance or performance of the candle.

They are part of working with a more natural wax rather than a sign that the candle has gone bad.

Candle Storage

Store candles:

  • Upright

  • In a cool, dry place

  • Away from direct sunlight

  • Away from radiators and other heat sources

  • Out of reach of children and pets

High temperatures may soften or alter the appearance of the wax.

Wax Melt Care

Wax melts are designed for use in a suitable wax melt burner.

Using Wax Melts

  • Check that your burner is intended for wax melts

  • Place only a small amount of wax into the dish

  • Do not overfill the burner

  • Place the burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface

  • Keep it away from draughts, children, pets and flammable materials

  • Follow the burner manufacturer’s instructions

Do not add water to wax melts.

Tealight Burners

When using a tealight burner:

  • Use only the size and type of tealight recommended by the manufacturer

  • Never use more than one tealight unless the burner specifically permits it

  • Make sure there is enough space between the flame and the wax dish

  • Do not use unusually tall or high-powered tealights

  • Never leave the burner unattended

The burner may become extremely hot during use.

Electric Burners

Use electric wax warmers only according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Do not:

  • Overfill the dish

  • Use the warmer if the cable, plug or unit is damaged

  • Immerse electrical parts in water

  • Leave it switched on unattended

  • Use wax containing decorations unsuitable for heating

Removing Used Wax

Allow the wax and burner to cool completely before removing the wax.

Follow the burner manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.

Do not use knives or other sharp tools that could crack, scratch or weaken the dish.

Reed Diffuser Care

Reed diffusers contain fragrance liquid and should be handled carefully.

Setting Up Your Diffuser

  • Remove the stopper carefully

  • Place the diffuser on a stable and level surface

  • Insert the reeds supplied

  • Keep the bottle upright

  • Protect the surface beneath it

Fragrance liquid may damage painted, polished, plastic, fabric or delicate surfaces.

Wipe up any spill immediately.

Reed Placement

Place your diffuser:

  • Away from children and pets

  • Away from naked flames

  • Away from direct sunlight

  • Away from radiators and strong heat

  • Away from electrical equipment

  • Where it cannot easily be knocked over

A warm or draughty position may increase the fragrance strength but can also cause the liquid to evaporate more quickly.

Turning the Reeds

You can carefully turn the reeds to refresh the fragrance.

When turning them:

  • Wear gloves where appropriate

  • Turn them over a protected surface

  • Avoid touching your face or eyes

  • Wash your hands afterwards

  • Clean any drips immediately

Do not place used reeds directly onto furniture or other surfaces.

Refilling Diffusers

Do not mix different diffuser liquids unless the product is specifically designed for this.

Clean and dry the bottle fully before reusing it with another fragrance.

Always use a compatible diffuser base and follow the refill instructions supplied.

Room Spray Care

Our room sprays are intended for fragrancing the air inside the home.

Using Room Spray

  • Shake only if instructed on the label

  • Hold the bottle upright

  • Spray into the air away from your face

  • Use in a well-ventilated room

  • Avoid breathing in the spray directly

  • Allow mist to settle before children or pets enter the immediate area

Use only as directed.

Do Not Spray Onto

Unless the product is specifically labelled as suitable, do not spray directly onto:

  • Skin

  • Hair

  • Clothing

  • Bedding

  • Upholstery

  • Curtains

  • Carpets

  • Painted or polished surfaces

  • Food

  • Pet bedding

  • Animals

  • Naked flames

  • Electrical equipment

Fragrance ingredients may stain, mark or damage some materials.

Test on a hidden area first where the product instructions allow use on fabric.

Room Spray Storage

Store room sprays:

  • Upright

  • With the lid securely fitted

  • Away from heat and sunlight

  • Away from naked flames and ignition sources

  • Out of reach of children and pets

Do not expose the bottle to extreme heat.

Car Fragrance Diffuser Care

Car fragrance diffusers contain concentrated fragrance liquid that may damage vehicle surfaces if spilled.

Installing Your Car Diffuser

Always follow the instructions supplied with the product.

Before hanging it:

  • Make sure the lid is securely fitted

  • Keep the bottle upright while removing any stopper

  • Avoid tipping it for longer than instructed

  • Check that the hanging cord is secure

  • Position it where it will not obstruct your view or controls

Protecting Your Vehicle

Do not allow fragrance liquid to touch:

  • Dashboard plastics

  • Painted trim

  • Screens

  • Leather

  • Fabric

  • Gear controls

  • Steering controls

  • Other interior surfaces

Wipe up spills immediately.

Heat inside a parked vehicle may increase evaporation and pressure within the bottle. Check the product regularly, especially during warm weather.

Remove it if:

  • The bottle is leaking

  • The cord is damaged

  • The lid becomes loose

  • The bottle could interfere with driving

  • Extreme heat is expected

Vacuum Freshener Disk Care

Use vacuum freshener disks only as instructed.

Before use:

  • Check that the disk is suitable for your vacuum type

  • Place it in the correct compartment or location

  • Keep it away from moving parts

  • Do not block filters, vents or airflow

  • Do not place it directly inside the motor area

Stop using the disk if you notice:

  • Reduced suction

  • Unusual noise

  • Overheating

  • Damage to the disk

  • Irritation from the fragrance

Always follow your vacuum manufacturer’s instructions. Robin in the Room cannot guarantee compatibility with every vacuum model.

Children and Pets

All home-fragrance products should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

Do not allow children to:

  • Light candles

  • Handle hot wax

  • Operate burners

  • Play with reeds, liquids or fragrance bottles

  • Use room sprays unsupervised

Animals can be more sensitive to fragrance than humans.

Use fragranced products in well-ventilated spaces and give pets the option to leave the room.

Take extra care around:

  • Birds

  • Cats

  • Small mammals

  • Reptiles

  • Animals with respiratory conditions

We cannot provide veterinary advice. Contact your vet before use if your pet has a health condition or known sensitivity.

Stop using the product and ventilate the area if a person or animal appears uncomfortable.

Allergies and Sensitivities

Home-fragrance products contain fragrance ingredients that may cause a reaction in sensitive individuals.

Always read the product label before use.

Stop using the product if you experience irritation, breathing discomfort, headache, dizziness or another unexpected reaction.

Move into fresh air and seek appropriate medical advice where necessary.

Fragrance products are not intended to diagnose, treat or improve any medical condition.

Spills and Accidental Contact

Always follow the specific instructions shown on the product label.

Skin Contact

Remove contaminated clothing and wash the affected skin thoroughly with soap and water.

Seek medical advice if irritation develops or continues.

Eye Contact

Rinse carefully with clean water for several minutes.

Remove contact lenses where easy to do and continue rinsing.

Seek medical advice if irritation continues.

If Swallowed

Do not deliberately cause vomiting.

Rinse the mouth and seek urgent medical advice. Keep the product label or packaging available so the ingredients and safety information can be identified.

Spills

  • Keep children and pets away

  • Keep the spill away from flames and ignition sources

  • Ventilate the area

  • Blot rather than spread the liquid

  • Clean according to the affected surface manufacturer’s guidance

  • Dispose of cleaning materials safely

Fragrance liquid may permanently damage some surfaces.

Fire Safety

In the event of a small candle or wax fire:

  • Do not use water

  • Turn off electrical burners where safe to do so

  • Use an appropriate fire blanket or suitable extinguisher if trained and safe

  • Leave the property and call the emergency services if the fire cannot be controlled immediately

Never take risks to save a product or possession.

Disposing of Products

Allow wax to cool and solidify before disposal.

Do not pour:

  • Melted wax

  • Diffuser liquid

  • Room spray

  • Fragrance oil

down sinks, toilets or drains.

Dispose of products and packaging in line with your local council’s guidance.

Empty, clean packaging may be recyclable depending on your local collection rules and the material used.
