Robin in the Room began with a smell.

For our family, walking through one particular front door always meant the same thing: home. The house belonged to Nanny, Dan's mum, and though we only visited a few times a year, stepping inside instantly brought a sense of warmth, safety and comfort that never faded.

After Nanny passed away, we spent some time in the house going through memories. While opening a cupboard, I suddenly found a familiar scent.

“That’s it,” I said.

“That’s the smell that always reminds me of Nanny’s house.” I'd mentioned it before, both when we were visiting and when we were in completely irrelevant places.

It came from a simple can of air freshener. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive — but somehow it held years of memories inside it.

I had already been toying with the idea of making candles as a hobby. In fact, a small DIY candle kit had already been bought… and never used. But that moment changed everything.

Before long the house was filling up with deliveries: wax, fragrance oils, jars, tools, testing supplies. The hobby turned into a craft, the craft into an obsession, and Robin in the Room quietly began to take shape.

I'm the maker behind every candle, experimenting with scents, pouring in small batches, and constantly refining the process to create something special. Dan works behind the scenes on branding and the digital side of the business, supporting the journey and helping bring the vision to life. The kids run around the background, causing chaos, helping where they can, and reminding us why it's so important that each and every scent we create smells, and feels, like home.

The name Robin in the Room is a quiet nod to Nanny. She loved robins. It was her own mother’s name, and she was always fond of the belief that a robin appearing nearby meant a loved one was checking in on you.

Over time, that idea began to feel fitting for what we were creating, small moments of comfort that feel a little like someone familiar dropping by.

Every candle is hand-poured in small batches at our home in Stoke-on-Trent. We use quality wax and carefully chosen fragrance oils so we can focus on the details that matter. Small batches mean better control, better scent balance, and better candles.

Our philosophy is simple.

A candle should make you feel something.

Home.

Comfort.

Calm.

Familiarity.

The scents we create are designed to spark moments. Sometimes by recreating memories you already have, sometimes by helping you create new ones.
